2010 Builders Ball

Friday, April 09, 2010

Habitat for Humanity is holding its Annual Builders Ball on Friday, April 9, 2010.

Our honorees at Phil MacDonald, a local restaurateur who owns the iconic Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank, several Panera Bread restaurants,  Baja Fresh, and other establishments.  Through Bob’s Mr. MacDonald donates a percentage of sales three months out of the year to Habitat.

Our second honoree is Mr. Jack Shine who is retiring as Habitat Chair this year after bringing our affiliate into one of the top 5% of affiliates in the world who have built over 100 homes.

Our theme this year is in celebration of our breaking ground on our final home at Pierce Street—which heralds the soon-to-be completion of our 61-home neighborhood—and the 61st Birthday of Bob himself.  We will celebrate the Valley in ’61, complete with own Rat Pack.

Recognizing the impact of financial downturns on area businesses, we must forge ahead with this important event—we can not let our lowest paid workforce down and certainly hard times will place more and more of our employee base in this category.  Further, our efforts at this Ball will ensure that 10% percent of unrestricted income for 2010 can dedicated to the rebuilding by Habitat International in Haiti.

By adding your name to our sponsor list, you will make a major contribution right here in our community helping us to ensure that the workers who represent the engine of our community—our nurse aides, our machine operators, office staff, bus drivers, our service industries, etc—do not become our homeless,  living out of their cars or worse.   You will also make a small contribution to help rebuild homes for the most needy in Haiti when the time for rebuilding begins.  We are asking you to support this effort.

The Reception, Awards Dinner Event and Raffle will be held at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, 333 Universal Hollywood Drive, Universal City, CA 91608 in the Grand Ballroom.

This past year our local Habitat turned over keys to 14 new homeowners in the city of Pacoima—providing a opportunity for a new kind of life to their 56 children and their children’s children.   In 2010, we aim to complete all 14 homes and begin to build an additional 12 homes by the summer. To do so, we are asking for your participation!
