The first step will be to attend our next Home Ownership Workshop, which will provide information and guidance on the application and selection process.
Habitat affiliates are independent, locally run, nonprofit organizations. Each affiliate coordinates all aspects of Habitat home building in its local area, including partner family selection. Your local affiliate can give you information on the availability, size, costs, "sweat equity" work requirements and application process for Habitat houses in your area.
Every affiliate chooses its homeowners based on the same three criteria:
- the applicants' level of need
- their willingness to become partners in the program
- and their ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest loan.
Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing the families who receive Habitat houses.
We serve families who are among the low income work force, generally at about 50% the average monthly income of people in their area. The homes we are now building are three and four bedrooms, so priority is for families with children. Our projects always include ADA accessible units.
Our current projects are dependent on donations, and we work hard to build as many houses as possible for needy families in our community. Currently we are building, so please do call to learn about the opportunities for your family to realize the American Dream of Home Ownership. |
