Habitat for Humanity's work is accomplished at the community level by affiliates -- independent, locally run, nonprofit organizations. Each affiliate coordinates all aspects of Habitat home building in its local area -- fund raising, building site selection, partner family selection and support, house construction and mortgage servicing.
The Habitat for Humanity of San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys affiliate (HFH/SFSCV) was founded in 1990. To-date, this affiliate has built 45 new homes and completed major renovations on 19 homes following the Northridge earthquake. HFH/SFSCV is one of five affiliates serving the greater Los Angeles area.
The geographic area serviced by this affiliate covers San Fernando Valley (northeast and northwest parts of the City of Los Angeles) and the Santa Clarita Valley. Homes completed to-date include: eight in San Fernando, eight in Panorama City, nine in Burbank, and one in Castaic.

The Pierce Street subdivision located in Pacoima is the affiliate’s largest undertaking to-date. Families have moved in to the first twenty homes.

Valleys, “It’s really due to our volunteers and
their support that we just finished the last 2 of
20 homes on Pierce Street in Pacoima. We are
thrilled at our progress and look forward to
moving on to the next phases.”
The next phase—17 new homes—is in the
plan approval and final contract stage. As soon as
possible we will start on
the underground utilities
and other improvements
that are needed prior to
home building.

working on planning for
a third group of 11
homes and on finalizing
a lease that will
accommodate our future
needs and help our
Habitat for Humanity
affiliate grow. Thank

| Building Self Sufficient Families for Generations to Come |
|
By building 64 homes side-by-side on one site, across from a middle school and down the block from a Boys & Girls Club, we have nestled each home in a highly supportive center—where one’s neighbors are striving for the same goals and child-centered programs are available to assist in providing excellent after-school care and homework assistance. To add to this environment of hope and support, Habitat provides 6 months social service support before and 6 months after the family moves into the home to ensure that the families have the resources, support and life skills they need to be successful in their new home. |

| Serving Seniors and the Differently abled in the Communities of Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley and Beyond |

| Our goal is to create decent affordable housing for all community members. At times, due to age or frailty, coupled with economic conditions, seniors, differently abled persons, or others who have fallen on hard times in our communities reach out to us for assistance. Our affiliate responds to their needs where possible. Moreso, we are an active partner with Senior Centers and social service programs in the community who refer pre-screened eligible clients to our program for needed home repairs. | Santa Clarita Valley |
|
Our efforts in the Santa Clarita Valley do not stop with our Brush with Kindness program. We have an active committee in that area and stand ready to purchase land and begin to build a model community like the one in Pacoima. Our vision is to answer a growing concern in that region:
- Santa Clarita’s Housing Market has only a 3.16% vacancy rate, leaving few options for those seeking housing alternatives.
- More than 27% of Santa Clarita’s population is made up of renters.
- More than 16% of the households in the City of Santa Clarita earn less than $29,999 per year
- The Median rent is $943.00—most often representing more than 50% of net earnings for these families.
- Many of Santa Clarita’s working poor are living in overcrowded apartments, garages and worse.
This is a major effort that will require the following committees:
- Land Acquisition
- Architectural/Planning
- Fundraising
- Construction
- Family Selection
- Family Services
Each committee has an active role and a critical set of goals with which dreams can become reality.
