Volunteers in New Year will Work on Final 24!

Congratulations to our newest Habitat Families - who moved into their new homes just in time to celebrate the holidays and New Years.

Although the morning started out wet and cold, like "Hollywood magic" the skies cleared and a few rays of sunshine burst through at the designated hour of 11:00am to start our Key Ceremony. With over 150 in attendance, several of whom were volunteers and sponsors,  Donna Deutchman, CEO of Habitat for Humanity, started the ceremony - greeting those in attendance. She then announced our continuing partnership with National Construction Rentals, introducing Mike Adams who presented a check to out going Board Chair, Jack Shine.

Doreen Shine, Habitat SF/SCV's Family Services and Support Chair, shared how difficult it is for the committee to sort through more than 400 applications that were submitted for the 14 homes, 11 in which families moved in December 9th and three of which move in happened in the following week.   HFH SF/SCV's Director of Family services Joyce Grair followed, passing out Certificates of Merit from the City of Los Angeles, with Maggie Estrada of Councilmember Alarcon's office. The certificates were given to exceptional volunteers:

Our Habitat family children offered a blessing, each sharing what they were each grateful for.  This was immediately followed by 16-year-old Ruby Magana singing "God Bless America".

Jack Shine, out-going Board Chair gave a brief synopsis of the year's events.  Then he and Incoming Board Chair, Wayne Colmer, with the help of the Board of Directors passed out BeJane pink suede tool belts to each family with the key to their new home in the pocket of the tool belt.

The ceremony concluded with a wonderful buffet lunch provided by Olive Garden, followed by two delicious cakes provided by Sam's Club of Pacoima.

Habitat was able to build these homes thanks to generous donations from:
